Despite the fact that the Swedes live in harsh climate conditions, and their ancestors were Vikings, the modern population of Sweden is peace-loving and friendly.
The Swedes compete only with their neighbors – the inhabitants of Denmark, Finland and Norway:
- They ridicule the slowness of the Finns;
- They make fun of the straightforwardness of the Norwegians;
- They pretend that they do not understand the unintelligible Danish language at all.
At the same time, people in Sweden are modest, it is almost impossible for them to talk first to a stranger on the street, something out of the ordinary must happen for a Swede to start a conversation first. But if you ask him for a favor, he will definitely help.
The Swedes are generally very reserved and closed people who do not like to violate other people’s boundaries and get into their souls. Even with a colleague with whom they have worked side by side for many years, communication will be formal and superficial. Many people consider the Swedes to be very cold and unfriendly, but in fact this is a normal observance of boundaries. A Swede is unlikely to support a conversation about salary level or personal life, he will quickly move it to a neutral channel.
Swedish citizens like to plan in advance, every day is scheduled down to the minute. A citizen plans a vacation as soon as the previous one ends, and meetings with friends are scheduled a month in advance. Residents of Sweden strictly follow the rules and laws, sincerely believing that they were invented for observance. They will never throw a piece of paper past the trash can, will not park in the wrong place or spend more than the legal 45 minutes on lunch.
Swedes go to bed early and wake up early. This has been the case since ancient times, when the inhabitants of Sweden, like citizens of other Scandinavian countries, lived exclusively by agriculture. For the Swedes, everything must be lagom (moderation in everything). They do not overwork themselves at work, but they are not idle either. They don’t buy overly expensive things, but they dress stylishly. They eat a lot and tasty food, but they don’t overindulge. The Swedes believe that this philosophy of life makes them happy.
