For the first time, the British doctor John Down spoke about the syndrome of Down in 1866, whose name was later named. He considered this syndrome a rare form of mental disorder.
In that distant time, nothing was really known about this syndrome. Only in the middle of the 20th century it was found that some newborns had a chromosomal pathology: instead of 46 chromosomes that an ordinary person has, people with Down syndrome turned out to be 47 chromosomes. It turned out that it was this only excess chromosome that significantly slows down all the stages of child development.
Down syndrome does not depend on the state of health of the parents, nor on the lifestyle that they lead, also do not matter their bad habits, education and nationality. Children with such a syndrome are born in different countries and between the married couples who had such children, there is absolutely nothing in common. Scientists call different causes of Down syndrome, the main ones are considered:
the age of the mother and father (for parents aged 35 and older, children with Down syndrome are more likely to be born);
closely related marriages;
The age of her mother’s grandmother (the older the grandmother was when she gave birth to a daughter, the higher the risk of grandson’s birth with this syndrome).
Down syndrome is not a disease, but a mutation and treatment cannot be subject. Everything is given to such children with great difficulty. There are training techniques that help such children become full -fledged members of society. Many of these babies, over time, will be able to learn, walk, say, eat and do what other children do, they can even go to ordinary kindergarten, school and play sports. In our country, they are often treated as hopelessly backward and completely lost for society, but this is a mistaken, cruel opinion. It is not for nothing that such children are called “sunny”, if we all do not dismiss them, then in the future they will definitely show what they are capable of.
